The Maccabees - Given to the Wild

I pre-ordered the album on the basis of their quote: 'this is the first time we've sounded how we want to sound on record'. My trust in that statement has certainly paid off. I received a signed copy of the album which was completely unexpected, but besides from that the album is... it's difficult to sum up in just a few words. I think if I were to choose one word it would be 'epic'. It's a bit like if The Maccabees' old albums were thrown on a fire with a couple of Explosions in the Sky's albums and perhaps The Foals' second album which then all melted down into Given to the Wild.

Angus Stone - 'River' (Joni Mitchell Cover)

I've never heard Joni Mitchell's version of this song, and I never intend to. I just know that it will be nothing on Angus's. His voice is just impeccable. He could sing a terrible song and it would become good. I sometimes listen to his music and become unhappy because I wish I had composed it.
He sounds almost identical to Angus from Angus & Julia Stone..

Pete & The Pirates - 'Cold Black Kitty'

For the moment I have awarded this piece of work FIVE stars in my library. Though it will inevitably get reduced when I come back to it in a few months and wonder whatthefuckwasIthinking.
They sound a bit like Belle & Sebastian slept with someone a lot more interesting and produced a fetus named Pete.

Arctic Monkeys - 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala'

Alex Turner is a lyrical genius. However my view was a little obscured when I heard the lyrics 'I took the batteries out my Mr. Sizzle and put them in my thinking cap'. Naturally I assumed a 'Mr. Sizzle' was some form of dildo. I therefore looked into the matter, finding out the lyric 'Mr. Sizzle' was in fact 'mysticism'. How embarrassing for me... The Sound of the Moment - Wye Oak 'Civilian'

It doesn't sound like anyone so we can't have any witty banter. All I know is the band formed in 2006, but I'd never heard of them until the other day. Sotheyformedtheotherday.

The Strokes - Angles

It's The Strokes. It's outstanding. EverythingCasablancasdoesis.

The Sound of the Moment - Yaaks 'HRHRHYTHM'

Hello potential ★★★★-er. This piece of music is very Foals like, though obviously not as good. It does however have one of those chorus hooks where you have no idea what he's saying. All I can make out is something like 'her eyes in my ear'. A bit like in 'Hey Cool Kid' by Cloud Nothings. Whatthefuckishesaying.com
